I write under the moniker SVB or the Silicon Valley Blogger and I am a full time personal finance blogger who runs the sites The Digerati Life and The Smarter Wallet. I have always been interested in personal finance ever since I got out of school and landed my first job in Silicon Valley as a software engineer.
While I worked in the technology industry for around 18 years, I eventually took up the hobby of blogging in 2006 and decided that I would try to turn it into a home business. I eventually quit my job in 2008 to pursue personal finance blogging full time. It's been a blast since! While it's always a challenge to try to make money blogging, it's not an impossible task if you put your mind to it. With proper financial management and money making channels, anyone can strike it out on their own as their own boss.
I share a lot of insights, stories and tips through my articles on budgeting, saving, stock investing, debt and credit management through my blogs and other hubs around the web. I invite you to drop by my hubs and share your thoughts about these money topics as well. I think we can learn a lot from each other.
Some great financial sayings and pointers that I live by:
1. Knowledge is power, especially in the world of finance. The more you learn, the more ideas you can put into action for your benefit. Or is it just "the more you learn, the more you earn?"
2. Make hay while the sun shines. Make sure you build an emergency fund as the first thing you do when you've got the disposable income. Of course, pay your debts off first, then work on a short term savings fund as a buffer.
3. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. I think you shouldn't sweat the small stuff. To get the biggest bang for your buck, learn how to prioritize your needs. And yes, know the difference between your needs and wants, then focus only on the stuff you really need.
4. Learn to live within your means. Probably the most important tip of all. Once this becomes second nature, you should be set! We should always aim to "be in the black". Maintaining a budget can help in this regard.
That's just a taste of some of the things I enjoy dwelling on. Thanks for stopping by!
